Thoughts and weekly updates

isle chronicles letterhead

While the rest of the country rallied at “Hands Off” protests across cities nationwide, I found myself in the peaceful presence of family. We embraced the tease of summer with a stroll through Seahurst Park, where the air carried the scent of salty tides, barbecue smoke, and blooming spring flora.

Now, settling back into the rhythm of island life, I find myself deeply grateful for the slower pace and the strong sense of community that defines this place. There’s a richness to the rural lifestyle here—a balance between serene living and a vibrant offering of events, classes, and local happenings. It’s clear that Whidbey Island is brimming with opportunities to connect, learn, and celebrate together.

So, with that spirit in mind, here’s your weekly roundup of what’s coming up around the island…

Welcome the Whales

April 12th-13th in downtown Langley: Around March through April native gray whales amazingly migrate up to 12,000 miles round trip every year. Langley has a longstanding tradition of welcoming this group back to the Puget Sound to have a spring feast of ghost shrimp. Lots of family-friendly activities and parade on Saturday.

Whether you’ve flexed your creative muscles at a workshop at the Create Space, sipped your way through soulful melodies at our beloved wineries and breweries, or donned your finest cetacean-themed attire to Welcome the Whales, you’ve officially earned your local stripes.

So, go ahead—treat yourself to another round (or two) and a well-deserved nap. Just don’t get too comfy; there’s always more to discover next week. After all, life in Langley doesn’t pause… unless it’s a Monday. 😉
